Seniors Club

Since the recent BIG birthday, I now qualify as an OAP in WA! I got my Seniors Card today which allows for reducations in rates and other charges and also reduced admission to cinemas, theatres and concerts and cheaper coffees at restaurants and other services. On the flip side the card offers free travel at off-peak times on buses, trains and river boats! Hurray!

Fiddlin' at Gidgegannup

Went up into the hills with Charlie on Sunday to the lovely Lake Charlotte winery and restaurant. He spent a couple of hours fiddlin' to entertain the picnicers by the lake while I relaxed and chatted with the locals. At this stage of the year, at the end of a long, hot summer, the land in the hills is brown and arid. Surprising then, to see such a beautiful lake in the middle of it all.
The restaurant is really lovely, set out over the lake. Nice menu too, including a hot stone dish where your main dish is served on a sizzling hot stone. We had one of those meals in Singapore on one of our trips once!
It was a cloudy day - a nice change from the perma-sun! Rain was forecast but none came!

Second Pennant Outing

This morning it was the turn of the Mt Lawley Division 1 team to step out for their first match. I was first reserve on the team today and caddied for the first player. She put up a great fight but lost on the last hole. We had tp play the Wanneroo team on their home course and with the greens having been recently cored and sanded it was a difficult task. Our team suffered a whopping defeat 6 - 0 at the hands of the local team!
Wanneroo is a country course, about 10 miles north of Perth. Pretty but nothing special. I enjoyed seeing the kangaroos and also the ducks on one of the greens!

Happy Birthday Breakfast

Last week both Gayl and I reached the magic age of 60. We had an early breakfast with friends in the lovely Coode Street Cafe in Mt Lawley to celebrate.

Pennant Play

Today saw the start of Pennant season. Mt Lawley's Division 2 team went to the magnificent Lake Karrinyup Golf Club to play against Cottesloe. This year the Mt Lawley teams have a new outfit - a lovely pink top with navy bottoms. The shirt was chosen by the match committee and was approved by the players. We are very proud of our new kit!
Imagine our surprise, then, when our opponents for today were wearing the VERY SAME shirts!.

Mt Lawley Division 2 team .... joined by the Cottesloe Division 2 team. YouCAN tell the difference ... Cottesloe wear white bottoms!

Gayl, No 4 on our team, and her loyal carry - moi. Mt Lawley caddies wore the old kit - navy and white.
Gayl played a great match but was two down with two to go. She won the last two holes to halve the match. Well done.
Mt Lawley won the overall match 5 and a half to one and a half. 7 players on each side. Well done Mt Lawley.
